BEACHES

This bit of Tuscany whose marvels we have described is the southernmost part of the region, considered one of the most precious gems of Italy’s environmental heritage. Lapped by the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the coast alternates with long sandy beaches and coves with jagged high cliffs. The Argentario peninsula, originally an island, has been joined to the mainland by silt deposited over the centuries by the sea and rivers. Two strips of land unite the Argentario to the Maremma: the Tombolo di Giannella and the Feniglia, which include the Orbetello Lagoon.

The coastline, called Costa d'Argento (Silver Coast), can be reached using trails, paths and dirt roads that wend from the mainland to the sea, overlooking bays, beautiful cliffs and beaches to enjoy as a refuge during the high season. There are also beach resorts that offer all services and comforts.
